In Natural Selections: Work inspired by Forms in Nature, Nick Fuhrer and James Weinberg look at fish, birds mammals, and reptiles both real and imagined. Inspired by natural history, science, and traditional pictorial relationships within nature, the artists depart from realistic portrayals of animals while attempting to maintain the beauty and fascination we associate with nature. Nick Fuhrer works in glass, bronze, wood, paper, and other mixed media. Etched glass features largely in his work but is ultimately one of many materials. The glass imagery is carved free hand into stencil material and then etched in a sandblaster. The bronze pieces are made using the lost wax method. Nick combines materials when ever necessary. James Weinberg works as an illustrator and designer. He uses a variety of drawing and painting media, including a computer, but focuses mainly on screenprinting. He has designed and illustrated book covers for publishing companies, posters for bands and festivals, and recently he completed a large outdoor mural in Assembly Square.
