MARISSA FALCO

Zines, comics, and conceptual embroidery

BIOGRAPHY

Marissa Falco lives in Somerville, MA. She began drawing and sewing when she was very young, and started making zines in high school. Marissa studied archaeology and journalism at Boston University and graphic design at MassArt. She is a 2013 recipient of a Somerville Arts Council fellowship, and her zine work was recognized in 2013 with a retrospective at the Barnard College Zine Library. Marissa has been a member of the Washington St community since 2012, and in her spare time she teaches embroidery at Gather Here in Cambridge.

STATEMENT

I create works in paper (zines, artist books) and fiber (embroidery). My work focuses on personal history, memory, and correspondence, and is often created from materials that are discarded or outdated. My comics and zines explore dreams and daydreams, and document travel, mystery, and the magic of everyday events.
